Motor Current Signature Analysis

    • Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is a condition monitoring technique used to diagnose problems in induction motors. Induction motors are widely used in industrial drives because they are rugged, reliable and economical. They became an industry workhorse and play a pivotal role in the industry for conversion of electrical into mechanical energy.

  • An electrical motor winding test by Singlepeak Technologies will detect any electrical failures far in advance of an electrical breakdown – giving you the power to confirm faults and take preventative action.
  • Cost effective, non-destructive testing of:-
    o Motors (AC & DC)
    o Generators
    o Transformers

Faults that can be detected with MCSA:

    1. Static and/or dynamic air-gap irregularities.
    2. Broken rotor bar or cracked rotor end-rings.
    3. Stator faults (opening or shorting of one coil or more of a stator phase winding)
    4. Abnormal connection of the stator windings.
    5. Bent shaft (akin to dynamic eccentricity) which can result in a rub between the rotor and stator, causing serious damage to stator core and windings.
    6. Bearing and gearbox failures

Services Includes:

  • Surge Test of inter-turn insulation between turns, coils & phases to detect shorted turns
  • DC Hipot Test 1000v + 2 (nominal voltage charge) of ground wall insulation
  • Megohmmeter Test of winding to ground voltage resistance
  • Step Voltage Test to detect high leakage current & earthing problems
  • P.I. Test of Insulation conformance to IEEE 43 guidelines
